EBU Annual General Meeting 2006
Good Spirit and Great Harmony
The 2006 Annual General Meeting of EBU was attended by an even larger number of participants from 12 European countries this year, who spent three days of exchange of information and opinions concerning the development of Buddhism in Europe. The AGM was held from Friday 29th September to Sunday 1st October in Sakya Tashi Ling, Barcelona. The remarkable venue of the meeting, this Buddhist monastery 'Sakya Tashi Ling', situated in the national park 'Parc Natural del Garraf' just outside Barcelona contributed to the successful atmosphere as much as the dedicated service rendered by the venerable monks, nuns, novices and lay people under the spiritual guidance of Ven. Lama Jamyang Tashi Dorje and the administrative skill of Ven. Lama Dorje Dondrub.
Besides a number of former members rejoining the ranks of the rejuvenated EBU, new members from Austria, Italy and Romania were accepted into the EBU-network.
Decisions were taken for new platforms and projects to bring member groups across Europe into closer contact with each other, to link academic institutions like Buddhist Universities and Study Groups and to cooperate with EU-institutions for the advancement of peace and understanding, tolerance and mutual support and the promotion of a return to spiritual and ethic values in Europe.
The subsequent conference of 'Buddhist Teachers in Europe' on the topic of "Sila - The Ethic Values of Buddhism for the Modern World" brought Buddhist teachers from different European countries and different Buddhist traditions together in three days of valuable sharing and exchange. A public presentation of the topic by Buddhist Masters from Europe in the World Trade Centre in Barcelona drew an interested audience of 300 people on October 1.
